Vixena’s Anime Heroines 2010

January 10, 2010

Let me get something straight. I really don’t like anime females. A lot of females in anime have cliché attitudes and behavior, defenseless female role waiting for someone to rescue her. Or she’s there for the moe factor and eye candy role. Or she just serves to cheer on the male character role and not really add much to the story. Yuck. But these lovely ladies caught my attention for many reasons. Whether it’s for design, personality or how others see them. These are the girls I’ve fallen in love with since I started watching anime. I think they’re beautiful inside and out, I wish people were ACTUALLY like them, I think the world would be a better place. So click for my top 12 list of anime heroines~

12. Rin Kokonoe – Kodomo No Jikan

Is it wrong for me to say that I love her for her forwardness in love affairs? This girl knows what she wants and goes for it, especially when it comes to love!! Despite this being an ecchi anime XD Rin is kinda filled with tragedy, and that appeals to me (weird.), especially when mixed with such a vibrant attitude like hers. That and she’s 8 XD She’s the youngest of my group of gals, but that doesn’t make me love her any less. Also, her character design is great, those twin tails <33 She manages to get anyone who knows her to fall in love with her, and she’s willing to get people fired just to make her friends feel happy and welcomed. Despite her ecchi nature, she’s warm and kind and I love watching her bounce around <3

11. Duck/Ahiru – Princess Tutu

Sweet and innocent Duck <3 This girl is filled with innocence and love. The way she openly admires her peers is the thing I love the most about her. Despite how she’s treated by them, or even if she’s just plain ignored, she still thinks very highly of them and aspires to be just as good as them in anything they do. She looks past flaws and is willing to forgive anyone’s mistakes as long as they ask for forgiveness… and also her naïve nature is due to her… well, her actual nature. She shouldn’t aspire to be anything except a duck, but she dares to dream bigger and sacrifice whatever she needs to for her friends. A cute little role model for anyone that meets her <3 (And also the ending to this series was SO unfair to her. I will never get over how badly she was screwed over,  it adds to my love for her.

10. Chika Ogiue – Genshiken

Oguie is my girl when it comes to drawing <3 Genshiken was my first Slice of Life anime/manga, and when she got introduced, I was very happy with her. She’s a tsundere, yes, but probably the only one I find adorable (girl wise.) It’s because of her that I tend to find relevance of real life with anime/manga X3 The way she got inspiration from the way her peers acted around her… well yeah, I kinda took a bit of that from her hehe! When I saw how her room looked, I knew I wanted to gear my workspace like hers, so professional and organized: Design wise, I love how she’s tiny. I don’t know why I love that about her, but just her size… it’s perfect!! And she wears the cutest artist styles in the manga. That and she draws her boys super cute.

9. Mikuru Asahina – The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Mikuru is a bit of a… she’s the sore thumb on this list XD Most of my girls fend for themselves and are strong in their own ways… Mikuru, I have to admit, is nothing like that. I mean, the girl is defenseless, weak, kinda dumb and completely clueless with romantic affairs. If I ever met anyone like her in real life I’d probably be repulsed by her… is what I thought at first. Then I realized that I’m a sucker for Mikuru. Her cute eyes, her adorable hair styles, her sweet faces… and her well endowd-ness! I gotta admit, she’s the only female I like that has enormous breasts. I have her figma and it made me appreciate her curves more, the girl has it going on XD Haruhi was right, Mikuru is a knockout. That and I have a hunch there’s A LOT more going on with Mikuru than she lets on, we’ll see soon, I hope. Maybe she’s a backstabbing bitch XD But I love her as her adorable clueless self. If I ever met her in real life… I’d take her home and feed her.

8. Yui Hirasawa, Ritsu Tainaka, Mio Akiyama, Tsumugi Kotobuki – K-On

Yeah, I couldn’t pick between them, in the end. Some days I love one girl more than the others, but in the end, I just can’t choose which one is my favorite. They all inspire me with their friendship and dedication to the group (and UGH the cuteness between them is enough to make a stadium implode.) I think if I could do highschool all over again, I would do it the way they’re doing it, making a band, starting from scratch and having best friends that I do everything with! Their clothes are adorable, their voices are adorable and their personalities match with them perfectly <3

7. Suzumiya Haruhi – The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

I think I watched The Melancholy of Haurhi Suzumiya 3 times before I realized that I liked it. She didn’t stand out to me at all and I didn’t understand what the big deal was with the show. And then out of nowhere, I suddenly loved this girl (starting like, October of 2009 XD ). Her spunkyness, her assertiveness, her LOUDness! It takes a real man to tame her (not Kyon :| ) and she makes me want to be more of a do-er. That and she’s amazing fun to draw (Yes, the hotness factor is definitely there.).

6. Sumire Iwaya – Tramps Like Us (Kimi Wa Petto)

Sumire is probably the oldest of my girls, being a college graduate (from Tokyo University and Harvard) and a working woman. She’s hot (the drawing style of the manga is very unique, but I love it!!) but has very un-feminine hobbies (she smokes, loves wrestling and watching Shonen.). Everyone thinks she has everything and is always lucky in everything she does, but in reality, she’s just like everyone else, wanting to fall in love and be successful as a journalist. She proves over and over in the manga that she worked very hard to get to where she is and is extremely emotional when it comes to love, and we see her façade and what she’s really like with Momo (her pet). It’s really hard not to fall in love with Sumire. She’s brilliant and reminds me that no matter how perfect I think someone is, they’re most probably just like everyone else and had to work hard for what they have. That and she makes me want to have a romance like hers (but read the manga for that, kthx ;D ).

5. Konata Izumi – Lucky Star

The Otaku Queen! Do I have to say what this girl inspires me to do? Well, I’ll lay it out cuz it’s a bit surprising XDD Konata, though she inspires me to be a better Otaku… she’s the reason I became  so lax about things. I used to be much more uptight about things like school and thanks to Konata’s aloof nature, that washed away a bit. For example, when I have to study for a test, I take… more breaks XDD This kinda got me in trouble a couple of times, but I like it better this way, I’m not as stressed about them as I used to be. That being said, she also made me want to be a better gamer. And got me to find references in real life to anime hehe~ That and she’s an adorable puff ball that I wouldn’t mind hugging for hours on end.

4. Tomoyo Daidouji – Cardcaptor Sakura

This girl is my BFF-speration. Meaning I look up to her because of how close she is to Sakura, and what she has to sacrifice to be her friend. Though Tomoyo is in love with Sakura, she keeps it to herself and thinks about the friendship between them more than acting out on those feelings. This part touched me in the manga and anime, when she admits that she really loves Sakura and wants nothing more than for her to be happy. To me, she’s the ultimate best friend, someone who would never betray you and always puts her special person before her own needs. I know this is impossible in real life, but it makes me love Tomoyo all the more. Especially because she isn’t like that with her other friends, just Sakura (the dedication… she kills me .-.). I wish I could find my very own Tomoyo.

3. Sawako Hanamiya – Kimi Ni Todoke

She’s the most recent addition to my lovely girls <3 I started this anime sometime in December and I loved it ever since the first episode, and she’s the reason why. She was a very quick choice for this, it was because of her that I decided to make this list. I love Sawako for how sweet and innocent she is, and how she wants everyone to accept her and love her, she’ll do anything for her friends!! And the little romance she has going on with Kazehaya has me squeezing whenever it happens <3 Also, her design is very simple and calm, though I find her to be very beautiful. Especially when she puts her hair up.  Her eyes are magnificent. I wish to one day find friends that openly love me as much as her friends do:

2. Usagi Tsukino – Sailor Moon

Well, a guilty pleasure of mine is Sailor Moon. It’s the first anime I had ever watched, and boy, did I fall in love with it. I started drawing my own Princesses and Magical Girls when I was like… 11 or 12, and it spawned my love of sketchbooks since I needed a place to release all that love! I remember I also had a Sailor Moon corner filled with posters and comics and sticker albums, all dedicated to the girls!! It’s very hard to pick just one that I love… but in the end, I have to go with Usagi/Serena. Back then, she was that hope that any regular old person can become magical. She wasn’t any smarter, any nicer, any different than anyone else, yet she was amazing to me. All the scouts have some sort of skill, and Usagi didn’t have a single one, she was just extremely dedicated to the people she loved, and I think that’s what attracted me to her. I’m rewatching the series, and the more I watch, the more I realize that I still love Usagi with all her innocence and dedication, and the fact that her friends love her so much.

1. Tohru Honda – Fruits Basket

There’s a big reason this girl is number one. She’s the first girl I realized that I loved in anime. I watched Fruits Basket around January 2008 and when I saw her, I was instantly drawn to her. A lot of people find her kind and polite nature very annoying, but it’s what I love most about her. I used to say “thanks” to people but now I say Thank You, and sometimes even Thank you very much, all in the name of Tohru XD Also, someone showed me Fruits Basket during my first year of University when things were starting to turn bad for me (2008… was a bad year.) Even though Tohru had gone through some horrible times, she was still able to smile. Whenever I got sad, I remembered how Tohru would smile and look on the bright side of the situation. It stuck with me, I still do it ^^; If I had to erase all my memories of that year and was told to keep only one… it would be the memory of Tohru because she really was a big part of it. She let me hold on to the belief that people can still be good, despite everything that they do to you. She will always remain my number one girl <3

Very nice list! Konata Izumi would be on my list too. I think every geek, to an extent, feels attached to that character to some degree. She’s just so lovable!

Wow~ it’s so refreshing to see how you admire these girls so much even for their imperfections, actually, it makes me admire YOU as well! I remeber wishing so badly to have just one girl I could look up to~ one character to kind of take notes from and keep me going strong. Unfortunately, I still feel I can’t really relate to any of the ones I’ve seen (though Nana comes close and it’s one of my favorite shows), but that doesn’t stop me from looking! I’m still hoping to find one I can become addicted to, and I’m 23! Haha~ never too late for role models I guess~ maybe I’ll just create my own. Anyways~ good picks for this! ^-^

No, it’s never too late to rolemodel anybody… Tohru especially, helped me grow a lot as a person, as silly as that sounds. Good luck on your journey, but I do think that when you find a character you really look up to and love, you’ll just know. I’m growing my hair out and straightening it every day, and I got bangs, just so I could feel a tiny bit like Sawako .///. I just knew from the first episode that I’d love her <3 Thank you for your lovely comment <3

I was, admittedly, really disappointed when I saw Konata on the list, but Sumire being there more than made up for it in my mind. Sumire is like the most hardcore HBIC in any manga I’ve ever read. And for as much as she breaks down like any other person at times, she’s still HBIC.

I’m the same way with Tohru, I always try to keep a smile on even when times are hard, she is one of my favorite characters ever, the whole series and a lot of the characters have made me become a better person and helped me grow a lot as a person, haha that sounds silly but it’s true. I’m so glad to see that you have her as your favorite too!
